Islamophobia in France; Analysis of Latest Cartoon Incident

Recommendations

  • The French government should engage and encourage all those actors of the society, which are positively contributing in prevention of rising trend of Islamophobia in France and should avoid taking steps like proscription of CCIF.
  • Continuous publication of caricature cartoons, especially of the most revered personality of Islam should be discouraged on the debatable issue of freedom of expression.
  • Among core values of French society, laïcité should not be misinterpreted and misused against huge Muslim minority in France as it would not only antagonize them but would also create law & order situation in the country.
  • The French government; being representative of the whole Republic should disassociate itself from supporting the extremist stance of Charlie Hebdo, as it would surely harm financial interests of the country. Such irrational steps would serve nothing better for the French society but would further exacerbate fissures among different religio-ethnic communities of the country.
  • Finally yet importantly, the Muslim community should be taken into confidence to identify and expel militants from the French society.
